As we all know that information technology has evolved so significantly in the past decade. With this, technology enables us to seek more opportunities, make life easier, Spend less time and increase the possibility of new discovery, invention, and innovation in every business sector. However, if we don’t understand the technology nor aware of its negatives side, this can lead you to be exposed to a hacker or a person who wants to steal your valuable information such as credit card, social media password, bank information, and many other private data. One of the most practiced methods that hackers utilized is called Key logger.
So what is Keylogger?
As this specific malicious software can be utilized by regular people with basic information technology knowledge, it can be performed with a lack of coding and programming experience. Key loggers are recognized as spyware or monitoring software possess the ability to capture keystroke, monitor a person’s activity (McAfee, 2013). This software can be a potential threat and can be advantageous if we can understand how it functions correctly.
Understanding
Now as we are in 2020, The Key logger has progressed not only to computer platforms, but it’s further available for a smartphone device such as android and iPhone as well (Violet Blue, 2017). Users can install Keylogger on a victim’s smartphone or computer, following install the program will remain hidden from the victim’s sight. The phone and computer that have the program can be remotely controlled from another computer by using the internet. The user can log in their Keylogger account from their computer to get access to a person’s hardware and extract Password, valuable information, Photos, location, screenshot, call record, phone call history, text messages and so on. Some examples of Keylogger software: Spyfone, EliteKeylogger, Logixoft, SpyrixKeylogger and so on.
Potential benefits for Parent
It’s very easy to make a mistake when your children happen exposed to the internet and smartphone. Now parents can monitor their kid’s Phone and computers by installing this spyware program. The parent can track internet activities seeing which website their children visit, how many hours they spend on their phone or computer, Track unusual activity like potential child predator, blocking a website, location tracking, a contact list to ensure the children are safe in both physically and on the internet. (The Science Times, 2019)
In conclusion, Keylogger software have it’s advantage and disadvantage if use it correctly it can bring more gains than harm. It’s always ideal to learn and accept the technology so that we can gain an advantage from it and additionally have enough knowledge and understanding of how to bypass being another victim of this malicious software.
